Chapter 37: Divorce Agreement
Chapter 37: Divorce Agreement
She frowned at the divorce agreement as if she had been dug up by existence.
Zac was no longer going to be a part of her life.
He was a man who haunted her, made her fall in love with him, made her hate him, and would completely withdraw from her life.
Tears started to fall down her cheeks.
She hadn't cried since she was recovering her memory. Contentt bel0ngs to N0ve/lDrâ/ma.O(r)g!
She didn't cry when she realized she'd murdered Edith, when Zac drew a dagger at her, or even when he was sentenced to life in prison.
She swore she'd never cry another tear for Zac again.
She assumed that after so much time with him, her heart had grown tired of him.
However, when she looked at the divorce agreement Zac signed, she appeared to be overwhelmed with sadness.
‘ls this what they call fate?’ she wondered.
She and Zac had been entangled for over ten years.
‘Was it really necessary to end it completely in this way?’ Lincoln arrived.
His body was slim and tall.
He was wearing a pair of borderless glasses and a white shirt.
He was very handsome and gentle.
Although his temperament was similar to Zac's in some ways, there were distinct differences between the two.
He sat across from the woman, quietly watching her cry.
She was crying uncontrollably as if she was about to drown the entire world in them.
‘ls this the woman who brother loved so much despite his own safety and life?’ Lincoln drew a paper towel from his pocket and handed it to Sophie when her tears had dried up.
"I appreciate it; she thanked him and took the paper towel he was holding to wipe her tears.
"Sign this, and I'll transfer the three properties and $200 million to your name,’ he said.
Sophie shook her head, blissfully unaware of what she was refusing.
Zac took the blame and went to jail for her.
Even though he had lost everything, he continued to plan for her wholeheartedly, attempting to make her life stable without complaint.
Clearly, it was the best and most thoughtful arrangement Zac could have made, but she refused to accept it.
Not even a bit of it.
Lincoln gave her a serious look.
"You don't have to feel bad about it.He was willing to do it.He told me that he had grown ashamed of you over the years. It was his ignorance, misunderstanding that hurt you.His carelessness killed your children and nearly killed you as well.In the end, it was all his fault. So you don't have to feel bad about it"
She still shook her head. She would definitely say goodbye to Zac as soon as she signed the agreement.
After that, they had nothing to do with each other, which caused her to feel a heaviness in her heart that she couldn't lift.
Lincoln asked, "With all the respect, may I ask you a question?"
Sophie calmed herself by covering her face with her hands.
"Ask”
"Do you have feelings for him?"
For a split second, Sophie was at a loss for words. She lowered her head after a moment of thought before responding to his question.
"I don't know.I used to love and hate Zac"
"Do you still hate him?" he asked once again and responded by shaking her head.
"Would you like to keep him in prison for the rest of his life to take your place?"
Lincoln looked her in the eyes as if he could see her heart through them.
Sophie shook her head, "I understand what you mean.I'll turn myself in.I will clear his name.I killed someone’ Lincoln chuckled, "You misunderstood what I meant."
Sophie was stunned. She thought Lincoln wanted her to clear Zac’s imprisonment.
After all, Lincoln was a good brother to Zac.
Knowing the whole truth, it was natural for him to support Zac.
"Are you sure you killed someone, Sophie?" Lincoln asked once again.
"Yes.I killed someone."
"Then please remember how you murdered that person.Give me all of the specific details"
Sophie's mind went into a trance, "I was arguing with Edith at the time.I wanted to escape, but she grabbed my hair.I collapsed to the ground and struggled desperately."
And her mind went blank all of a sudden.
Lincoln had caught her in a trance at this point, "What happens next? Edith was killed by cutting her throat with a dagger, according to DNA profiling. The knife was clean. How did you manage to do it?"
"I'm not sure” she said, but the more she thought about it, the more her head hurt.
"I honestly don't remember. All I remember is that when I opened my eyes, Edith was dead, and I was holding a dagger.I murdered her. Then Zac showed up”
"So, you don't remember whether you killed someone?" Lincoln asked calmly.
"Was there anything suspicious about it?" Sophie asked.
"Yes! Miss Williams.Perhaps I should call you Mrs.Madden now. After all, you haven't even signed the divorce papers yet.Would you be willing to make a small sacrifice to keep your husband out of prison?" Sophie remained silent.
