A Doll for the Boss

A coward

I know everyone will think I am a coward, but I didn't want any trouble. I was tired of those pointless arguments. Well, maybe it's my fault. I shouldn't have gone with Omer that night, but I was afraid for my life. Serkan had lost his mind. I ran far away from the gynecological clinic, leaving the problem behind in that place. I walked aimlessly through the city, and somehow my feet led me to a baby clothing store.

I didn't hesitate for a second and went inside. A blonde girl attended to me.

"Good afternoon, miss. How can I help you?"

"I'm just browsing, thank you."

I walked through the aisles and entered the girls' section. A beautiful golden dress with lace and delicate gemstones caught my attention. It was truly exquisite. Although I didn't know the gender of my baby, the urge to buy it was overcoming me. I looked at it for a few more seconds and made up my mind.

"Miss, I changed my mind. Could you show me this little dress?" The woman smiled and approached me.

"This is a designer dress, size zero for a newborn. It comes with rhinestone-encrusted shoes and a beautiful matching bow. The price is a bit high, but I assure you it's worth every penny," she said as she handed me the dress. I smiled excitedly, but my smile disappeared upon hearing that voice.

"Daughter, are you pregnant?"

My body tensed, my smile vanished, and I looked up from the dress to see my mother, who was both surprised and excited. The truth is, I hadn't seen her since I got married. I had decided to forget my previous life, but destiny kept bringing everything back.

"Mom!"

"Are you pregnant? Wait until your father finds out. He'll be thrilled," she asked again, getting closer to me.

"Don't you dare say anything," I said, looking at her coldly. "I'm not pregnant. It's a gift for a business partner."

"I thought I would be a grandmother."

Sadness reflected on her face. Damn it! Why did these things have to happen to me? It's not like my pregnancy is a state secret, but I wanted to keep it hidden from my family. I had enough with Serkan. "Miss, you can charge it," I handed her the credit card and turned to my mother. "Don't get your hopes up, Mom. I'm not pregnant, and even if I were, you would be the last to know. You're dead to me."

I took my card and the small package, then left the store. I needed to get away from my mom. I walked aimlessly until it got dark. Meeting my mother had created havoc in my mood. By the time I realized it, I was walking through a dark alley. I wanted to turn around and go back, but I didn't know where I was. How the hell did I walk so much? I tried to retrace my steps, but a man stood in my way.

"Why in such a hurry, doll?"

"I'm not alone," I said fearfully, trying to sound confident. "My security is close by. I'm just waiting for a friend."

"Liar! Come and enjoy this night with me."

The man wasn't bad-looking, but his eyes were filled with fear. He walked resolutely toward me, holding a knife in his hands. This would be the end for me. "Please, don't hurt me," I begged on the verge of collapsing.

"Calm down, doll. It won't hurt."

I closed my eyes in fear. I never thought I would die like this, especially with my little one growing inside me.

"If you touch a hair on my wife, I swear I'll kill you. So, don't tempt me because I won't hesitate to tear you apart."

I opened my eyes and saw him. There was my handsome, dominant husband, his face expressionless.

"Serkan," I whispered, paralyzed.

"Get in the car."

I tried to ask how he had found me, but I guess it wasn't the right moment.

"Damn it! For once in your life, do as you're told. Get in the car."

He didn't look at me. His eyes were fixed on that man. Without a second thought, I ran and got in the car. Alfredo, the driver, was inside.

The car started moving.

"Wait! You can't leave Serkan behind."

Alfredo looked at me angrily. I knew I was being reckless.

"Don't worry about the boss. He can take care of himself."

No one said a word on the way home. My mind was on Serkan, and the driver remained silent, seemingly mad at me. When we arrived, he helped me get out of the car but still wouldn't speak to me.

I locked myself in the room, then took a quick shower. I was nervous, unable to control myself. I searched in my bag and took out the dress. I also checked my phone. There were over fifty missed calls from Serkan and about twenty from an unknown number. But strangely enough, my phone was always on silent mode.
