Chapter 2562
The woman missed the hidden meaning in his words and proceeded to open the back door and get in on her own.
The engine roared to life as the car swiftly departed from the hospital.
On the road, Nathan gave a subtle nod, prompting Lonnie to hand a bottle of warm bubble tea to the woman.
“Mrs.novelbin
Payne, Mr.
Payne asked me to get this for you.
Please enjoy it along with the strawberry mousse you asked for,” Lonnie said, passing a small box of cake to her.
“Thank you,” she replied graciously.
She took the small box and delicately inserted a straw into the bubble tea before taking a sip.
“It’s delicious.
You are so thoughtful, honey,”
Nathan kept his focus on the road, not sparing a glance her way.
Since Lonnie had been helping with the investigation for the past two days, he knew well enough that the woman in the back seat wasn’t Lucinda.
Therefore, he couldn’t help but subtly roll his eyes.
After taking a few sips of bubble tea, the woman suddenly felt overcome by drowsiness.
Soon, she fell asleep against the car seat.
When she eventually woke up, the surroundings were shrouded in impenetrable darkness, rendering everything invisible.
A faint chill hung in the air, accompanied by a metallic scent that reminded her of blood.
“Honey?”
Her voice trembled with panic.
In the next moment, the lights flickered on in the room.
The dim ceiling light cast a subdued glow, illuminating the entire room enough for the woman to see clearly.
In the small enclosed room, she was surrounded by windowless walls adorned with unsettling items such as whips, ropes, and iron locks hanging ominously.
Fear gripped her as she held her breath, looking at something directly ahead.
Her pupils narrowed sharply in alarm.
Nathan sat before her with his lips pressed tightly together, his eyes cold and devoid of warmth, his presence overwhelmingly intimidating, like a king of Hell ready to deliver judgment on her transgressions.
Struggling to compose herself, she finally managed to speak, her voice trembling.
“Honey, where are we? Why is this place so terrifying? Weren’t we supposed to be heading home? I thought we were going to see Colby and Destinee?”
Disregarding the woman’s remarks, Nathan asked icily, “Where is Lucinda?”
The woman’s expression froze, her face growing tense.
“Honey, what are you saying? I am Lucinda, your wife.”
Nathan rose and approached her with heavy steps.
Towering over her, he repeated firmly, “Where is Lucinda?”
The woman continued to feign innocence, lowering her gaze, and avoiding Nathan’s piercing stare.
