Chapter 29 I Heard That I Have a Child on Its Way

“Why are you so afraid of me?” Miles asked.

“I-I am not!” Despite her embarrassment, Stella began, “Mr. Grant…” She hesitated for a moment before speaking.

“What’s wrong?”

“My cousin would like to know what is it that you don’t like about her?” Stella lowered her volume as she spoke. Although Miles thought she was the one who introduced Yulia to him when Zane was in fact the one who proposed it, she didn’t want to expose Zane.

“Do I need a reason to dislike someone?”

With a nod, she replied, “I get it now. I’ll try to console Yulia, but she seems to have fallen in love with you at first sight, so I don’t even know how to persuade her to back down.” Then, she let out a dry chuckle.

As soon as she did so, she was overcome by feelings of nausea as the food she had for lunch wasn’t clean. Before she could say anything else, she rushed to the washroom while covering her mouth. At the entrance to the washroom, she bumped into Ximena, which caused her to frown instinctively.

However, she didn’t have time to speak to her before dashing into one of the cubicles to clear out the contents in her stomach. Following Stella, Ximena mocked, “Oh, no wonder Zane no longer visits me. It turns out that you’re pregnant, Mrs. Levitt!”

Me? Pregnant? Stella couldn’t refrain from sneering mentally. How could I possibly be pregnant when Zane isn’t even willing to give me a chance?NôvelDrama.Org owns this text.

Nevertheless, she was determined to stand her ground against a third wheel like Ximena. After wiping her mouth with some tissue, she turned to meet Ximena with a polite smile. “Yeah, men are bums, but they’ll eventually have to come home after having fun. After all, there are people and things that don’t deserve serious commitment.”

Upon hearing her insults, Ximena stomped away in frustration. Meanwhile, Stella only meant it as a verbal comeback, so she didn’t expect the entire company to know that she was pregnant within the short span of time that she spent in the washroom. However, she didn’t care about it, as it was about time for a young married couple to conceive.

When she got home that night, she found Zane staring at her with a livid expression while sitting still on the sofa. She was already used to such behavior from him, so she proceeded to go back to her room after putting down her bag. However, Zane came before her in a flash to choke her on her neck. “Whose child is it?”

She didn’t expect him to take her off-handed remark so seriously, but at the same time, she quickly realized it must have been Ximena who told him about it. Of course, Zane knew Stella couldn’t possibly have been pregnant with his child, so she might very well be pregnant with somebody else’s child.

“Do you know why I introduced a girlfriend to Miles Grant? It’s because I want him to know that you’re my woman! How dare he impregnate you?!” He was still choking her, so she couldn’t explain herself even though she wanted to. The veins on his forehead were bulging while he glared at her menacingly before spitting, “You sl*t!”

Finally, he let go of his hold on her. She collapsed onto the ground, caught in a coughing fit as soon as he let go. At the same time, he already slammed the door behind him after leaving the house, so she didn’t get to explain anything to him. His reaction was mind-boggling. Nonetheless, she decided she should file for a divorce since their married life was utter hell. A marriage in which she was but a tool for

him to obtain pleasure through torturing her was pointless, so she figured she should just end it as soon as she could.

That night, she slept alone in the house, but she was already used to it anyway. However, her colleagues were gossiping when she got to the office the next morning. Initially, she assumed it had nothing to do with her, but Miles later summoned her to his office, and she complied despite her confusion. As soon as she stepped through the door, he threw her a question. “I heard that I have a child on its way?”

He didn’t tell her anything else, so she was baffled by the question. With a frown on her face, she wondered what he meant. Last night, Zane thought the nonexistent child belonged to Miles… Oh gosh. He must’ve caused trouble at the company in a fit of rage. It wasn’t until then that she realized what her colleagues were gossiping about.

Hanging her head low, her face gradually turned red. She dared not look at him after causing such a relationship scandal for her boss. However, Miles seemed unperturbed by all of it, as he was wearing a smile, obviously not taking anything to heart.

“Mr. Grant…” Stella’s voice was caught in her throat. “You shouldn’t listen to Zane’s nonsense. I’m not even pregnant; it was because—”

“How did he know that the child is mine?” Miles ignored her explanation. With her mouth agape, she gawked at Miles, seemingly confused at how his mind worked.

“Is it because he never touched you that he assumed I was the father as soon as he caught wind of your pregnancy?” Judging from the question, Miles didn’t care at all if she had a baby, but he was more intent on knowing whether she had slept with someone else. Oh lord, how am I supposed to answer a question like this? she thought.
