Brotherly Love
With determination, he focused his mind back into the documents, putting aside his thoughts about Marissa for the time being.
It was time to face his business partners and secure the vital contract he had been working so hard to obtain.
While still in the car, his phone rang and he checked it and realized that it was Jessie calling.
He wondered why she was calling that early. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
He picked up.
“Hey, Jessie,” Alexander answered, his voice tinged with surprise.
“Is everything okay?
You don’t normally call me this early. So what’s up?”
Jessie’s voice sounded rushed and anxious on the other end of the line.
“Alexander, I’ve got some news……”
“Okay….. I’m listening…” he said, hoping it wasn’t what he was thinking. Hope she hasn’t found out anything?
Nah….. I don’t think so. Anderson and myself are the only ones who know about the fake marriage thingy and my driver but they had all signed a confidential agreement that if they disclosed my secret, they would have to pay.
So he hoped it wasn’t the reason she called. He thought to himself as he listened to her on the phone.
“Something unexpected has come up.”
“What’s going on, Jessie?”
“I just found out that I have to extend my business trip,” she explained. “It’s unavoidable, and I don’t know when I’ll be back.”
Alexander’s heart sank. Her extended absence meant that he would need to maintain their long-distance relationship for even longer, which was already strained by his fake marriage arrangement.
“I understand, Jessie,” he replied, struggling to hide his disappointment.
“I’ll manage things on my end. Just focus on your work, and we’ll make it work, okay?”
“I’m so sorry, Alexander,” Jessie said apologetically.
“I promise I’ll make it up to you when I get back. I love you.”
“I love you too, Jessie,” Alexander replied sincerely.
After the call ended, he couldn’t help but feel the weight of his complex web of relationships, all pulling him in different directions.
Alexander couldn’t shake off the mixed emotions that swirled within him. On one hand, he felt a growing connection with Marissa, stemming from her unexpected kindness that morning.
On the other hand, his real relationship with Jessie was already strained, and her extended absence added another layer of complexity.
As he arrived at the meeting location, he focused on the task at hand. The business partners he was about to meet were crucial to the success of his company.
The negotiations, discussions, and presentations filled his day, leaving him with little time to dwell on his personal life.
The business meeting went on for a long time, and Alexander was fully focused on securing the important contract for his company.
He didn’t have much time to think about his personal life or the fake marriage with Marissa.
The meeting was successful, and he managed to secure the contract. It was a significant achievement for his company, and he felt a sense of pride.
As the meeting ended, Alexander left the venue, ready to face the challenges of his fake marriage once again.
He knew that balancing his real and fake relationships was not going to be easy, but he was determined to make it work.
On his way to his office, he couldn’t help but wonder how his complicated life would unfold, especially with Jessie being away and the unexpected connection he was building with Marissa.
Meanwhile, Marissa cleared the kitchen she prepared to go to the hospital to check up on her brother.
She wanted to look fresh and presentable, even though she was just visiting her brother. After her shower, Marissa quickly got dressed and checked herself in the mirror.
Satisfied with her appearance, she grabbed her purse and headed to get a cab and headed to the hospital.
She was determined to ensure her brother’s recovery was going well, as family remained a priority in her life.
Marissa arrived at the hospital, feeling both worried and hopeful for her brother’s recovery.
She greeted him with a smile and was prepared to offer the help and comfort he needed during his healing process.
“Hey there, champ,” Marissa greeted her brother as she entered his hospital room.
“How’s my favorite patient doing today?”
He managed a weak smile.
“Getting there, sis. Thanks for coming.”
Marissa took a seat next to his bed.
“I brought some snacks to keep you company. How’s the hospital food treating you?”
Her brother chuckled. “Terrible, as always. Your snacks are a welcome change.”
As they chatted about various topics, Marissa’s brother seemed to regain some of his spirits, and the conversation turned to his favorite hobbies and upcoming plans.
He suddenly asked, “How’s work, sis? Anything exciting happening at the office?”
Marissa gave a brief nod, careful not to reveal her secret fake marriage.
“Work’s been keeping me busy, but I can’t complain. Lots of projects to manage.”
“I have no doubt you’re doing amazing things,” he said with pride in his eyes.
Marissa smiled. “You’re my inspiration, little bro.”
He looked at her in a weird way.
“I’m your inspiration?” he asked.
“Hmm-mmm.” she nodded.
“How so?” he asked, a smile on his face as he leaned closer while eating his snacks.
Marissa chuckled at her brother’s surprise.
“Well, you’ve always had this incredible resilience. Even when things were tough, you managed to stay strong and never give up. That’s what inspires me.”
Her brother grinned, his eyes reflecting the bond they shared. “You know, you’re pretty inspiring too, Sis.”
“Aw, you’re making me blush,” Marissa teased, grateful for the chance to lift her brother’s spirits.
“I’m serious sis. You never gave up on me and you made sure that I did the surgery and now… I’m getting a little better because of you.” he said, placing his hand on her hand as she smiled at him.
“You mean more to me than anything, and I will make sure that nothing happens to you.” She said, looking into his eyes with so much care and love.
“Awww… now I’m feeling very important.”
“Because you are important, silly,” she said with a grin, feeling her heart swell with love for her brother.
