Chapter 12
Chapter 12
Her parents exchanged glances before her mom spoke, "Honey, if you don't want to get married, we
can find a way to stop this wedding."
She replied, "It's okay, Mom. I am a woman of my word, and I can't break my promise." Without waiting
for their response, she left them behind and made her way to her room.
Once inside, she meticulously surveyed her surroundings, searching for any hidden cameras. She felt
a profound sense of distrust towards her parents after learning about their true identities.
Once she confirmed her safety, she immediately called her personal assistant, Ashley, and instructed
him to conduct a comprehensive background check on her parents. She wanted every detail, from their
childhood to the present, and urged him to leave no stone unturned. The request left Ashley
astonished; it was the first time his boss had asked for such an extensive investigation, especially when
it concerned her own parents. He couldn't help but wonder, "What's going on?"
However, he kept his questions to himself and simply responded, "I will start working on it right away."
Sandra ended the call after that, leaving Ashley to begin his task.
She took a refreshing shower and settled into bed, anticipating the new chapter of her life that awaited
her the next day. Morning arrived, marking the beginning of a new journey for her and her family. After
another shower, she made her way downstairs to join her family for breakfast.
As they savored their meal, her father received an unexpected call from City A University, informing
him that his daughter had been accepted into the university. He was taken aback by the news. He had
previously attempted to communicate with them, hoping to secure a place for her, as she wasn't getting
any younger. However, he had become preoccupied with other matters. Now that he had severed ties
with the Smith family, his primary focus was ensuring his daughter's education.
To his delight, City A University had taken the initiative and contacted him first. This was a wonderful
turn of events, as it eliminated the need for further searching and deliberation on his part.
After hanging up the call, his family turned their attention towards him. He informed his daughter,
Sandra, about the unexpected call from the principal of City A University. "Sandra, honey, it was the
principal calling. You have been accepted into City A University, and you can start your studies next
semester."
Sandra was surprised by the news. She hadn't anticipated her parents considering her education at
this point, and she wasn't particularly in the mood for school. However, she didn't want to dampen their
happiness, so she replied, "We'll see when the semester begins."
Her mother inquired about her interests and asked which course she was interested in pursuing.
Sandra hesitated for a moment, then responded, "Medicine, that's the only field that comes to mind
right now."
After Sandra's response, silence enveloped the room as they finished their breakfast. Finally, her
father, Andrew, spoke up, "We need to find reliable individuals who can assist us here, as your mother
and I have decided to take charge of our own businesses."
Sandra chimed in, "I don't have any objections, as long as we can trust them. Besides, today is my
wedding day, so I'm not sure if my husband will want me to stay here or if he has his own place."
Her parents remained quiet, almost as if they had momentarily forgotten about the events of yesterday
and the conditions for their newfound freedom.
"Well, since you said you'll honor your words, we won't compel you to do something you don't want to
do. However, remember that if you ever feel uncomfortable or if he mistreats you in any way, you have
the option to divorce him. We have the means to protect you," her parents stated.
Sandra stared into her parents' eyes for a few moments, sending chills down their spines. Her gaze
was icy, but it lasted only a second. When they looked at her again, she had returned to her usual
harmless and vulnerable demeanor. She expressed her gratitude, saying, "Thank you for your concern. Text content © NôvelDrama.Org.
I will keep it in mind."
With that, the conversation came to an end, and they continued to prepare for the upcoming wedding,
their words lingering in the air as a silent understanding.
After her brief statement, Sandra declared, "I have to leave now. I need to prepare for today." Since
realizing that her parents were not as simple as they appeared, she felt the need to maintain some
distance from them. She couldn't comprehend their motives for allowing her to return or for leaving her
to grow up in that village. Her words jolted Andrew and Matilda back to reality. They couldn't believe
they were now afraid of their own daughter, who seemingly had nothing in life.
At exactly 12 pm, Sandra arrived at the civil affairs bureau and patiently waited for Levy. She had no
knowledge of whom she was marrying and hadn't conducted a background check. She didn't feel it was
necessary, confident that even if Levy turned out to be a scumbag, she could handle him. Additionally,
she wanted to test her parents' reactions if Levy did prove to be a scumbag.
