Chapter 11
Chapter 11
What was so special about me that Elias kidnapped me? Surely, he was just bored with his life. I sat in
the bed and cracked it open. I found it odd that there was no mention of an author or anything.
'Lycan: a man who transforms into a beast when the proper conditions present themselves. In basic
terms: a werewolf. Thought to have been cursed by Greek gods ages ago for a sin so evil, they were
sent down from Olympus and doomed to a life of a beast forever. The werewolf did not suffer however;
it was strong, agile, quick, smart, and manipulative; a creature of the devil himself. Over the course of
time, the Lycan evolved. It found that it was stronger in groups, or packs. They found that each Lycan,
or wolf, had a role.
There is the Alpha: leader of all other Lycan in their pack. He is the strongest in every sense. The Beta
is the Alpha's second in command; also seen as the enforcer. The Beta holds the title of security and
will often run the pack's warriors, or Sentinel. He is also in charge when the Alpha is not present. The
Delta is the Alpha's third in command. When the Delta is not helping the Beta, he protects the pack's
Luna. The Luna is the Alpha's bride, or mate. She helps to steady the Alpha and balance him out. She
rules the pack beside him with a gentle hand and nurturing spirit. She is the Alpha's soul mate.
Every Lycan has a mate; it is just a matter of finding them. Fate will put them together someday,
somehow, but precise timing is not always known. The mate of a Lycan can be another Lycan, or a
homosapien (human). The Lycan's mate's purpose is to balance the Lycan out and reproduce with
them to create their heir. The chances of a Lycan finding a mate after 25 years of age drops to 23%.
The mate and the Lycan will feel a connection with each other. They will not love each other right away,
but the need to protect and care for their mate will be great. The Lycan and mate will grow as a unit
over time and connect as one.

initially. A blood bond is simply accepting the mate or Lycan's blood into the other's body in any way.
This can be done by a blood transfusion or simply drinking the hemoglobin. Mates will always have the
same or corresponding blood types, so pairing and conceiving isn't a problem. The next step would be
for the Lycan to mark, or bite, the mate. There is no specific placement for this ritual. The mark signifies
the claiming of the mate and will change the mate's sent to other Lycan to alert them that they are
taken. The mark will also send the female into heat the next time she ovulates. The female's 'heat' will
call to her mate and all unmated males. Whoever mates the female during her' heat' will impregnate
her. The 'heat' will last a week. If the female is not mating within this time, she will have a 'heat' every
time she ovulates until she is fully mated. If a Lycan loses a mate, the Lycan can slowly go mad.
If a human mates with a Lycan, there is a chance that their offspring will be either Lycan or human.
Normally, the Lycan gene travels on the Y chromosome. The chances of a male offspring being Lycan
are greater, but it's not impossible for a female half-blood
The Alpha title is passed down through the current Alpha's eldest male heir, but the Alpha title can also
be transferred through a challenging. Like a male lion, Alpha Lycan can be challenged for their title.
The challenge is a one-on-one fight to the death. The winner claims the pack and residing land. The
Luna of the deceased Alpha can chose to stay as an Omega, or leave. An Omega is the lowest ranking
Lycan in a pack. It is weak and small in every nature; considered the runt or broken Lycan, it is frowned
upon and often bullied by the others. The Omega is the pack's weakest link.'
I stopped reading as my eyes began to droop. I bookmarked the page I stopped on and set it on the
bedside table. I turned off the lamp with one last yawn and snuggled under the covers. The book was
interesting but that's all I saw it as. It was all fiction.
