Chapter 79: The Silence Before The Storm
Falling in love again had always been one of his biggest fears.
He had always hated the feeling of being vulnerably in love with someone, and truthfully, he’d been so thankful for that jarring accident years ago – the one that tainted and somewhat “mutilated” him. The one that caused him a psychological disorder, rendering him unable to get too close to the opposite gender.
The incident had left him scarred, both physically and emotionally, but had also gifted him a life of solitude and peace. A life devoid of love yet strangely fulfilling in its own way.
YES!
His life had been boring and uneventful back then, but it was PEACEFUL.
He never had to worry about the thought of anyone’s betrayal. Never!
He had avoided women like the plague, and that had always acted as a shield against the dangers of falling in love again.
He had built walls around his heart, believing he was protecting himself from further pain.
But now…. those walls lay shattered at his feet.
Now, he had completely screwed himself over with his now undeniable feelings for Kourtney.
A Disaster, now that he thinks deeply about it.
Because now, it left him feeling vulnerable and exposed to the kind of pain he hated the most.
The peaceful life he had carved out for himself for years was now crumbling before his eyes, leaving behind a void filled with anger, hurt, and a deep sense of betrayal.
He was feeling things he never thought was possible for him to ever feel again. It was like a hurricane of emotions he had long forgotten how to navigate.
All because of that Woman!
How Pathetic!
Sebastian’s eyes kept blazing red with fury as he continued to speed down the city’s bustling lanes like a lunatic while his worried bodyguards and subordinates trailed behind him.
The voices in his head kept taunting him, mocking him with cruel words.
It was sad that things were about to go downhill from here, even before he got the chance to enjoy his marriage life to the fullest.
Brandon Smith, a man he had dismissed as an insignificant RAT, someone so unworthy in his eyes, held his wife in his arms, a sight that burned into Sebastian’s memory like a scar that would never fade or heal.
The thought of Kourtney’s betrayal gnawed at his soul, threatening to consume him whole. How could she do this to him? To their marriage?
The questions echoed in his mind, each one a dagger twisting deeper into his wounded heart.
After driving violently through Melbourne City for what seemed like an eternity, Sebastian finally screeched to a halt in front of Skyline Events company. His aura radiated rage and turmoil as he ordered his men to bring Kourtney to him.
“Get her out of there. If she refuses to comply, DRAG her down here!”
He watched as they swiftly obeyed his command, disappearing into the building like shadows on a mission.
Inside, they inquired about Kourtney’s whereabouts and were led to Brianna Martins, Kourtney’s immediate superior, who guided them up to the floor where Kourtney worked.
But when they reached her desk, it was empty, sending a wave of panic through the room.
Kourtney’s colleagues clustered together, whispering frantically about her sudden disappearance amidst the scandal that had erupted online while also wondering why the hefty-looking men in dark shades were looking for her.
It was Liam who remembered Kourtney’s fondness for working in the secluded conference room area of the company.
An uneasy feeling washed over him as he was ordered by the malicious Brianna to lead the way while the burly men followed closely behind.
Liam couldn’t shake off his suspicion of them and their true intentions, especially with the way they seemed impatient to get to her.
Perhaps, it was a sharp intuition borne from his feelings for Kourtney. The feelings he had been trying so hard to bury without any progress.
But now, he was determined to protect her from any form of harm if need be.
As they reached the private conference room, they found Kourtney engrossed in her work, seemingly unaware of the chaos that had unfolded in her absence.
Liam’s protective instinct flared up at the sight of Kourtney, his romantic feelings surfacing with intensity as he stepped in front of her, shielding her from the approaching men in black.
Kourtney finally raised her head from the stack of paperwork, blinking in utter confusion.
“Kourt, these men came looking for you. I don’t know why but I’m here if you need any help,” Liam assured her.
The one thing he knew for sure was that he loved this woman and was willing to shield her from whatever storm that was brewing.
“Uhhh? Ohh! They’re….” Kourtney gasped as she recognized the bodyguards as belonging to Sebastian.
“Uhhmmm. It’s okay, Liam. I’ve got this,” she told him with a reassuring smile while rising to her feet.
As long as these men were her husband’s, she knew she was safe.
‘But why are his men here to look for me?’ she wondered, rolling her eyes backward. What kind of unnecessary drama does this man want from her today?
Seeing her nonchalant reaction and usual mood, Liam could only guess that Kourtney had no idea about what was going on online. She seemed calm, cool, and collected, like always.
It was quite obvious she was still painfully unaware that she was being ripped to threads on the internet. Besides, her phone had been unreachable after he kept calling her for the past hour or so.
“Hmmmm. Are you sure?” he inquired.
“Yeah… I know them,” Kourtney assured him again.
“Let’s go, ma’am,” one of the bodyguards said.
Before Liam could say or do anything else, they led her out of the conference room
As they escorted her out of the building, Kourtney felt as though she was being led away to exile under a cloud of scrutiny and judgment from her colleagues at Skyline Events. Everyone stared at her like they were watching a soap opera, pointing fingers and whispering words she couldn’t quite understand or comprehend. Their gazes kept drilling into her like accusatory arrows.
She couldn’t shake off the feeling of being at the center of a public spectacle.NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
But for what reason?
Why?
She quickened her pace to keep up with the bodyguards, trying to make sense of what was happening.
Thankfully, they got to Sebastian’s black Rolls-Royce just in time…. Just when she thought she was going to go crazy from all the whispers and piercing stares.
When Kourtney was finally ushered to the waiting car, she found Sebastian who had his head bowed against the steering wheel.
Surprised by his unusual position, she hesitated for a moment before calling out. “Hubby?”
But the car was filled with an unpleasant silence she didn’t expect.
“Heyyyy?” she said aloud, but Sebastian remained motionless, unresponsive to her calls, his silence deafening in its intensity.
“Hubby??? Are you okay?” She called out again, but there was still no response from Sebastian.
Kourtney became worried.
The atmosphere inside the luxurious vehicle was thick with tension, and Sebastian’s brooding presence only added to the suffocating aura surrounding him. Inside the plush leather seat, Kourtney sat up while glancing bewildered at her husband, his side profile etched with lines of what looked like frustration and maybe… even anger.
“What’s going on? Why did you send your men to fetch me like this?” Kourtney’s voice trembled slightly, betraying her unease at his silent and threatening demeanor.
And still, there was no response from the man.
The only sound was his hard, rugged, and tattered breathing. The silence was unbearable and tormenting.
Her worry escalated, clawing its way up her throat as she tried once more, her voice tinged with fear. “Seb… Sebastian, please say something. What… what’s wrong?”
Just when she reached out in an attempt to touch him, Sebastian finally lifted his head from the steering wheel.
The moment he turned to face her, Kourtney flinched at the sight of his red, furious eyes.
He looked like a wild beast, his jaw clenched so tight it could crush diamonds. His nostrils were flared with every harsh breath he took, and his brows furrowed into a dangerous shape.
For a moment, Kourtney was taken aback by the sheer force of his rage. She withdrew back into the seat in panic and terror. She had never seen him like this before, and the sight both terrified and intrigued her.
“Wh… What’s wrong?” Kourtney asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Sebastian’s lips curled into a despairing sneer.
What’s wrong?
Was this woman really asking him such a miserable question?
“Kourtney,” he began. His voice was low and dangerous, and Kourtney felt her heart skip a beat.
“Do you have any idea what happens to people who choose to betray me like this?”
