Chapter 746 Cayden Is Too Arrogant
The atmosphere in the banquet hall became incredibly tense due to the sudden appearance of Roderick.
Roderick was momentarily stunned, but it only lasted a second. He quickly regained his composure, his wild eyes unabashedly scanning Cayden from head to toe.
With remarkable speed, he concealed the murderous intent in his eyes. Roderick extended his hand towards Cayden and said, “Mr. Moore.” Content rights belong to NôvelDrama.Org.
Cayden did not refuse as he shook Roderick's hand tightly. “Mr. Roderick.”
One person was cool and handsome, and the other was wild and unrestrained, creating a strong contrast.
That was the second time Cayden directly confronted Roderick. The two men locked eyes, silently challenging each other, with the surrounding music serving as their backdrop.
Roderick was secretly taken aback. Two years ago, when he shook hands with Cayden, the latter's grip wasn't that strong. At that moment, though, it felt as if Cayden was about to crush Roderick's hand. Roderick couldn't help but wonder how could such a drastic change have occurred.
Cayden stood there quietly. His handsome face was peerlessly elegant yet extremely aloof. His eyes possessed a chilling coldness as if winter was trapped inside them. The regal dominance emanating from him exerted strong pressure. Even Roderick, who had experienced countless life-and-death situations, could sense it.
“Cayden...” Avery's unease intensified, and she couldn't help but tighten her grip on Cayden's arm.
She knew very well that Roderick was the culprit who caused her separation from Cayden for two years. The reason she was frustrated was because she didn't have any evidence to bring him to justice.
Cayden gave Avery a calming look, gently pinching her slender waist as a gesture of comfort.
However, Avery was somewhat worried. The Fuller family had been a prestigious family for centuries, their existence and rise even predating the Moore family by several decades. Later on, it was thanks to Cayden's generation that the Moore family flourished, becoming a powerful force.
The Moore family and the Fuller family have always avoided interfering with one another.
Cayden and Wilson had once fiercely competed in the business world. On the other hand, he had very little interaction with Roderick.
That was their second official handshake.
Cayden was handsome and aloof, charming and elegant, the man of many high society's ladies' dreams. Meanwhile, Roderick was rugged and tough, but he was equally capable and courageous. His appearance was slightly less attractive than Cayden's, but his abilities were not to be underestimated.
Roderick smirked. “I heard a while ago that Mr. Moore was unintentionally involved in the Mocset gang shootout. They say you narrowly escaped death from that gunfight. At first, I didn't believe it, but now
that I see you here at Fuller Group's banquet, the rumors seem true. It's rare for someone to walk away unscathed from a fiery explosion. Seeing that you have all limbs intact, you must be quite lucky, Mr. Moore.”
“I've always been lucky. By the way, I was not involved in a gang shootout. That incident was an attack in Mocset, a premeditated and organized attempt on my life. Now, I've uncovered some of the details about that incident. I, Cayden, am a man who always seeks revenge. Those who have harmed me in the past will surely pay in the future!”
With a smile on his face, Cayden casually mentioned his past brush with death, causing an uproar at the banquet.
He was a man who was extremely good at concealing himself. His face wore the most elegant and appropriate smile. However, that smile gave off a chilling vibe, causing Roderick to grow apprehensive.
He feigned surprise, raising an eyebrow. “Oh? Someone actually dared to lay a hand on Mr. Moore? Which reckless b*stard has gotten tired of living?”
It had been years since that incident. Additionally, Roderick had handled everything so perfectly that even the Remdikian government couldn't find anything at the time. As such, he didn't believe that Cayden could dig up the truth from two years ago.
Cayden closed his eyes, his voice calm and steady. “You need not concern yourself with my affairs, Mr. Roderick. Perhaps you know the person I'm referring to.”
The air between the two was thick with the smell of gunpowder. The threatening undertone in Cayden's words was not lost on Wilson.
Wilson pulled Roderick aside before reprimanding, “Mr. Moore is here to attend Fuller Group's anniversary celebration. What are you trying to do, Roderick?”
With a disdainful snort, Roderick flicked his sleeve, casting a meaningful glance at the petite and beautiful Avery standing next to Cayden. Then, he strode away. Although, before he left, his eyes were filled with absolute lewdness, cruelty, and scheming.
Roderick ascended to the second floor.
In a secluded, deserted corner, he made a mysterious phone call. “Bring me the latest concoction you've developed... Yes, I want it now. Make sure there's plenty of it. Bring it to me immediately! I want Cayden's woman beneath me tonight. I never paid much attention before, but now I realize she's quite a catch. Her face is pure, and her figure is great. She looks like someone I'd want to 'take care of.' A woman who's had a child has a certain charm. I'm sure spending time with her will be quite the experience...”
After a brief respite in the quiet second-floor lounge, Evangeline grew worried that Wilson might be bewitched by Avery. She wanted to go downstairs to the banquet hall. At that moment, she heard a man on the phone.
Upon hearing the man's conversation, she felt her heart raced wildly, and an excited expression appeared on her face.
She held her breath, daring not to make a sound, tiptoeing like a cat while clutching the hem of her skirt.
Before she could take two steps toward the ball, a powerful hand grabbed her by the neck and flung her harshly to the ground!
Inside the banquet hall, Wilson's gaze fell on Avery, who was standing next to Cayden, with a hint of subtle admiration. “Mr. Moore is fortunate to have married Ms. Rumpley, a woman who embodies beauty and talent. I wonder how many lifetimes of good fortune it took you to win her over. If she weren't married, I would have done everything in my power to pursue her.”
Avery felt a tingling sensation under his intense gaze.
In response, she glared at him fiercely. When her gaze met Wilson's eyes, he perceived her being playfully annoyed with him, making him laugh even more unabashedly.
Cayden pressed Avery's head against his chest, preventing her from facing Wilson directly. With an icy tone, he said, “Avery and I have been married for a long time, and we even have a child. She is my wife for life. Mr. Wilson, you should give up any hopes of getting her in this lifetime.”
Wilson smiled warmly, his eyes glinting. “Mr. Moore, you're being too absolute. Even the most loving couples can have misunderstandings. You should be careful. If the day you upset her comes, she may just run into someone else's arms.”
His blatant provocation was extremely grating to Cayden.
However, instead of being livid, Cayden still smiled.
Under the bright, shimmering lights, the man's eyes twinkled, shrouded in a layer of captivating charm. “Rest assured, Mr. Wilson. My love for Avery will only die when my flesh does. She feels the same
toward me, too. Otherwise, she would have fallen for someone else during the two years of my disappearance. Yet, she remained steadfast, guarding our home and our children. She says she will always belong to me, both in life and death. No matter how outstanding other men are, they are just a swarm of annoying buzzing flies in her eyes. So, what do I have to fear?”
Cayden heavily emphasized his last words. It was his payback at Wilson for annoying him.
Wrapping his arm around Avery's waist, he led her toward the guest seats in the banquet hall, no longer paying attention to Wilson.
As Wilson gazed at their intimate figures, he scowled, and the displeasure in his eyes grew more intense. Cayden is way too arrogant!
