When fate plays its hand 891
Chapter 0891
Sam wanted Joli to understand that taking down the Sneider brothers was just the beginning. Their father, Weston, was bound to step in, and he would be an even bigger problem. This was his way of reminding Joli to start planning ahead.
“…Right now, the Sneider family’s biggest concern is getting Kenny and Shawn out of jail. They’re so caught up with this that seeking revenge just isn’t an option for now,” Sam explained. “But once Weston sees there’s no way to save his sons, he’ll direct all his fury at your family.”
A wave of dread hit Joli. After a long pause, he finally looked up and asked in a measured tone, “If Kenny and Shawn have already been taken into custody, do you think there’s any chance the Sneider family could be wiped out completely?”
Paul hesitated briefly before speaking honestly “That’s hard to say. Based on the evidence we’ve handed over to the police, convicting the Sneider brothers won’t be an issue. But taking down Weston wouldn’t be easy.”
What if Weston had gone out of his way to keep his name out of his sons‘ mess? What if that sly fox had seen this coming and planned for it all along? What if…
There were too many possibilities that even Paul couldn’t guarantee they would be able to bring Weston down.
Joli smiled bitterly. He had thought that today’s victory would be the end of it and that everything would return to normal. But the reality was far more complicated than he had imagined. Têxt © NôvelDrama.Org.
Sam said, “You don’t need to overthink this. No matter how tough the Sneider family is in the village, beyond its borders–whether in the town, the county, the city, or the state- they don’t even matter.”
He then added, “Avoiding Weston’s retaliation isn’t impossible. It’s just that it’s not as simple as it sounds.”
Joli frowned. “What are you suggesting, Mr. Cooper?”
“Move away,” Sam replied.
The Sneider family might rule the village like tyrants, but their influence doesn’t extend beyond its borders. If the Clifford family moved to the county or the city, Weston wouldn’t be able to do anything to them.
But if the Cliffords stayed in the village, Weston would have all the time in the world to make their lives miserable. It wouldn’t be violence, but frequent harassment, daily verbal abuse, and endless disruptions would grind them down over time.
Then, Sam pointed out, “Your mom’s health isn’t something the village or even the town’s
medical facilities can handle. If you move to the city, you’d have access to healthcare that’s hundreds of times better than what you have now.
“Your sister’s about to start high school, right? For a family with such humble origins, it’s almost a miracle they could raise someone as successful as you. Do you think she’ll have the same determination to overcome challenges and the same luck to stand out as you?
“Look, I’m not trying to criticize your sister. I’m just pointing out that betting on rare exceptions is far less reliable than relying on predictable outcomes.
“In the city, she’d have access to a better education and a much higher chance of getting into a top university. These are just my thoughts, but the choice is yours.”
Joli smiled wryly. “I understand your point.”

Joli smiled wryly. “I understand your point.”
He knew moving to the city would offer many advantages–not just escaping Weston’s threats but also providing better healthcare for his mother and a brighter future for his sister. But everything comes down to one thing–money.
If they moved to the city, Joli would need a place to stay. It wouldn’t have to be anything luxurious, and a simple one–bedroom apartment would suffice. Renting was an option, but even that would cost a significant amount.
Since Wanda was sick, the Clifford family’s only sources of income were Joli’s part–time job and the orchard behind their house. If they moved to the city, how would Ollie and Wanda make ends meet? And what would happen to the cherry orchards?
The conflict with the Sneiders stemmed from their fight to protect that land. If the Cliffords left the village now, wouldn’t that make everything they had fought for feel like it was for nothing?
