When she left, He went crazy

Chapter 25 All I’m Thinking About Is Hope

I was slightly stunned at the words.

Cecil was even more attentive than I had imagined.

Some of the meat at dinner just now had a slightly fishy smell. I found it sickening, but I managed to suppress the

discomfort.

I didn’t expect him to notice.

I smiled faintly, “A little bit, but it’s nothing.”

“That’s good, take care of yourself.”

Cecil’s words were filled with concern, “No matter what you encounter, you must take care of yourself first.”

“Okay.”

I was touched.

But it was only later that I understood the true meaning behind his words..

The car slowly entered Riverside Garden’s underground garage. Cecil helped me out of the vehicle. I felt like someone was watching me, but when I looked around, I didn’t see anything unusual.

As I was about to reach the apartment building, a Maybach sped past. The car’s owner seemed to be seething with

anger.

I was startled and instinctively protected my belly, taking a step back. If Cecil hadn’t steadied me, I might have fallen.

After confirming that I was okay, Cecil looked at the departing car and said, for the first time in a cold tone, “He’s truly

gone mad.”

“Perhaps he’s in a hurry.”

I hadn’t calmed down yet, patting my chest in relief that I hadn’t fallen.

Since I became pregnant, it seemed that no matter what happened, my first concern was always my baby.

As long as my baby was safe, nothing else mattered to me.

After Cecil escorted me upstairs, he went back to the supermarket to buy some ice cream. He told me to apply ice and rest more, hesitating before finally leaving.

Slowly moving to the sofa on the balcony, I started curling up my legs. I noticed that my ankles were swollen, so I quickly began icing them.

Today was truly not my lucky day, considering all the injuries I had sustained.

Looking at the river view downstairs, a helpless smile played on my lips.

Seeing my sprained ankle, I was wondering if I could go to work tomorrow, I held the ice cream in one hand and took out my phone with the other.

Before long, I felt so tired that I could barely keep my eyes open. I grabbed a blanket and draped it over myself before drifting off to sleep.

In a half–awake state, I faintly heard a knocking at the door.

The sound was very faint and irregular.

I became slightly more awake, intending to see who was knocking on the door, but the knocking stopped.

In the late night, the intermittent knocking was somewhat eerie, causing shivers along my spine.

I clenched my fists, about to muster the courage to look through the peephole to see who was knocking when a low, melodic, yet somewhat muffled voice came through the door crack,

“Hope, Hope.”

It was Christopher’s voice. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.

I breathed a sigh of relief, feeling a mix of anger and helplessness. Thankfully, I had iced my ankle and taken medication, resting for several hours, so I could now move with some difficulty.

Christopher, outside the door, was growing impatient.

Limping to the door, I heard the constant beeping of the keypad lock.

“Wrong password.”

“Wrong password.”

“Wrong password.”

Christopher, at the door, was getting increasingly frustrated.

As I opened the door, I saw him leaning lazily against the door frame, his slender fingers still trying to tap the screen.

As the door opened, a hint of clarity appeared on his somewhat dazed face. The light from inside the room reflected in his eyes, making them sparkle like sapphires.

He stared straight at me, not saying a word, as if trying to peer into my soul.

The scent of alcohol wafted in, and I instinctively stepped back, puzzled, “Why are you here?”

According to the typical TV drama plot, after he sent Evelyn off in the luxury car, they should have had a sweet candlelit dinner.

Why did he come to me drunk?

His gaze swept around the foyer, and he asked in a cold tone, “Where is he?”

“Who?” I was puzzled.

He sneered, “Cecil.”

I didn’t understand what he meant.

Frowning at him, I genuinely didn’t know what he was thinking, “Christopher, are you here to catch me cheating?”

I thought I should be the one to catch him cheating.

His eyes dimmed, lips pursed slightly, and he said softly, “No.”

“Then why do you come here?”

Christopher remained silent.

He didn’t speak, and the long lashes cast shadows on his cheeks, exuding a sense of desolation.

As the night breeze swept by, I got goosebumps, feeling resigned, “If you don’t speak, I’ll close the door.”

After a long silence, he suddenly muttered, “I just missed you.”

My heart seemed to skip a beat.

I was utterly surprised..

He had said many flirtatious words to me, but most were dirty talk. He had never been sincere with me.

Many times before, I had hoped he would say some sincere words, and even in the heat of the moment in bed, I would hold his neck and tremulously say, “I love you; I miss you so much.”

But all I got was silence or his playful banter.

I had long grown accustomed to disappointment.

Yet, his sudden words still managed to stir my emotions.

Taking a deep breath, trying to keep myself composed, I said, “You’re drunk.”

“I’m not.”

“Christopher, look at me clearly, I’m Hope.”

“I know you’re Hope.”

He interrupted me abruptly, cupping the back of my head with one hand and leaning in to kiss me. He then made the

incredibly certain statement, “The person I miss is Hope; it’s always Hope, no one else.”

My name repeated over and over in his mouth, scratching at my heart like feathers, each time sending shivers down

my spine.

He kissed me fiercely, catching me off guard.

To him, perhaps this was my tacit approval, as his large hand began to roam over me through the thin layer of

clothing.

The air grew thin. I suddenly came to my senses; I pushed Chris away, kneeling on the floor and clutching the trash can, retching continuously.

The smell of alcohol made my stomach even more uncomfortable.

I couldn’t tell if

if I felt wronged or suffocated, but my chest felt like it was about to explode.

“What was this? What did I mean to him? Was he only here because he couldn’t touch Evelyn and had to fulfill his physical needs with me?”

A moment later, feeling much better, I looked up and met his extremely cold gaze. He looked fierce, “When he touched you, you didn’t seem disgusted. You were smiling happily at him.”

“And what about you? Do you really miss Hope, the one you had to marry to protect Evelyn?”

My head was buzzing with anger, and without explaining, I immediately retorted.

After speaking. I unexpectedly held a glimmer of hope, staring intently at his expression.

I wanted to see him surprised, shocked, incredulous.

After all, I didn’t want to believe what Evelyn had said fully.

But he didn’t react as I had imagined.

He just froze for a moment without a word of rebuttal.

Marriage to me really makes you suffer, Christopher.”

I chuckled self–deprecatingly, lowered my head, and urged, “Sign the divorce agreement as soon as possible.”

I had given him the divorce agreement days ago, and even if his lawyer had to read a clause three times, it should have been done by now.

As I turned to close the door, a force pressed against the door panel, but no further action was taken.
