Chapter 485
Mr. Everett must really be head over heels for his new love interest. Before his divorce, the gossip about him and Margot was nonstop. Mrs. Bennett kicked up quite a fuss, but Mr. Everett wouldn't distance himself from Margot. Yet once he was free, he quickly cut ties with
her. It's been three years now, and he hasn't been involved in a single scandal!
One of the young women, Hannah, clasped her hands dramatically and sighed, "Is this what they call a tycoon's devotion to just one person? So, it turns out Mrs. Bennett and Margot were just distractions, and this new woman is truly the one Mr. Everett cherishes!" "Exactly! Despite all the plotting by the former two, they couldn't outshine the one who came later!"
Selena lowered her gaze, clutching the papers in her hands a bit tighter.
After settling the bill, she rode the elevator up to the private room. Brook, dressed in hospital gown, was slumped in the bed, going on and on about how he was at death's door.
Selena pulled up a chair and sat down beside him. "You're not dying. It's just a suspected case of stomach cancer, not confirmed yet."
Since Brook's ordeal with loan sharks three years ago, he'd become extra cautious about his health. A minor issue in his check-up had him in a panic, insisting Selena come back to be with him.
As he aged, he leaned more on Selena, seeing her as more dependable than his own son. Ricky had been taking care of him, which only seemed to irritate Brook.
With no choice, Selena took vacation days to fly back and be with him for the check-up. She hoped for the best but was prepared to make arrangements if it turned out to be serious.
Her presence calmed Brook a bit, easing some of his anxiety.
Half an hour later, Ricky showed up. Seeing how tired Selena looked, he quickly said, "Sis, you should head home and get some rest. I'll stay here with him. You've been way too accommodating, rushing here straight off the plane."
Brook immediately flared up, "You don't cater to me, and now you don't want your sister to either? You little rascal. Maybe my illness is from your pestering!"
Ricky shot back with a grin, "If it was from pestering, it would be your liver, not your stomach. Stop blaming everything on others."
Brook: "............"novelbin
Watching the familiar banter between father and son, Selena couldn't help but smile warmly.
She thought for a moment and then said to Ricky, "Alright, I'll go home, drop off my luggage, and rest a bit. I'll come back tonight to take over your shift."
Ricky handed her his car keys. "Sis, take my car. It's tough to catch a taxi around here." "Okay."
Selena wheeled her suitcase
through the underground parking lot until she found Ricky's bright yellow sports car. Even as a CEO, Ricky still had that flashy streak from his younger days. en
She chuckled softly, loaded her luggage into the trunk, and slipped into the driver's seat. The latest models were packed with features, and Selena, a bit out of practice,
accidentally stalled the practice
engine twice.
Not wanting to stress herself out, she pulled out her phone to call Ricky for help.
Just then, a deep, smooth voice spoke beside her, though the words were laced with teasing.
"Selena, have you been abroad so long you've forgotten how to drive here?"
Selena looked up.
Everett stood by the car door, arms crossed, his dark eyes fixed on her, a faint smirk playing on his lips.
